Committee denounces "restriction" on movement

Imphal, August 03 2026: The Khwairamband Keithel Coordinating Committee for Peace (KKCCP) has questioned the rationale behind the continued restriction on the movement of Meiteis along the National Highways.

Addressing a press conference at Khwairamband Keithel, KKCCP convenor Laishram Memma said people had placed high hopes on the new Government following the withdrawal of President's Rule, but those expectations have not been fulfilled.

She said the Government's failure to facilitate free movement across the State has severely affected the livelihood of daily wage earners.

Memma further said that street vendors who earn a meagre income in the Keithel areas are being treated unfairly by State forces.

She also accused the Centre and the State Government of deliberately targeting the Meitei community.

Stating that elected representatives should resign if they are unable to convey the aspirations of the people to the Central leadership, she urged the Government to take necessary steps to address the concerns of the public.

The Meitei village volunteers have laid down their arms but similar action has not been taken by the Kukis, she said, adding that armed Kuki miscreants continue to attack innocent civilians.

She accused the Government of granting the Kukis complete impunity.

She further claimed that Meitei village volunteers who have laid down their arms are repeatedly summoned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for statements, alleging bias on the part of the Government.
