Security forces gun down five since Jan 26

At least five people have been shot dead by security forces under controversial circumstances since the night of January 26 till February 6 this year.
Talking to The Sangai Express, DGP R Baral, quoting reports submitted by District Police Headquarters and DIG (Range-I), maintained that all the five persons were killed in encounters.
Even as the DGP maintained that all the five persons were killed in encounters, families of the slain individuals have been strongly contending that all the five persons were innocent civilians and that they were killed in fake encounters.
Sagolsem Jiten alias Mikoi of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai was shot dead by a combined team of Imphal East and Imphal West commandos at Top Yaralpat in Imphal East district in the night of January 26 in what the police claimed was an encounter.
In another alleged encounter, Ahanthem Amujao of Sawombung was shot dead by Imphal West commandos at about 9.30 pm of January 27 at Khuman Lampak Khuman Palli.
Sanasam David of Sawombung was shot dead by a combined team of Imphal East and Imphal West commandos at Langthabal Phuramakhong at about 9 pm of February 4. Wahengbam Jayenta of Kumbi Kangjeibung Mapal but staying at Sayang Kurao Makhong was shot dead by a combined of police commandos and Assam Rifles at Phayeng in the night of February 6 .
Again, one Thongam Sana of Wangoo Sandangkhong was shot dead by Imphal East commandos at about 8.40 pm of February 7 on the road leading to Ningombam from Tulihal Airport.
The DGP informed that District Police and DIG (Range-I) have been investigating into these incidents where five persons were killed in reported encounters.
Meanwhile, the Government has initiated procedures to conduct Magisterial Enquiry into some of these cases.
The cases into which Magisterial Enquiry would be conducted include the killing of Wahengbam Jayenta by a combined team of police commandos and AR troops at Phayeng on February 6, added DGP R Baral.
