Many flaws detected in SIR process

Several flaws and loopholes have been detected in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral roll in the State.
While people displaced by the prolonged violent crisis have been asked to produce permanent residential certificates, some of the Booth Level Officers (BLO) and Booth Level Agents (BLA) could not read or write the Bengali script.
Sources said that officials in the ongoing SIR process have been asking IDPs to produce and submit permanent residential certificates issued by the Deputy Commissioner concerned under whose jurisdiction the names of the IDPs are to be updated in the electoral roll.

However, a large number of IDPs are not in a position to go to the office of the DC concerned and seek their permanent residential certificates.
For instance, Meitei IDPs from Churachandpur are not in a position to visit the office of Churachandpur DC and obtain their permanent residential certificates.
Many of the IDPs have pointed out that what the SIR officials have been asking for is next to impossible.
Notably, it has been already reported that as many as 727 Meitei voters have been deleted from the newly drafted electoral roll in Churachandpur district following the SIR process.
On the other hand, many of the BLOs and BLAs could not read or write the Bengali script after Meitei Mayek was introduced in the State in place of Bengali script many years back.
But the latest voter lists are in Bengali script.
As such, these BLOs and BLAs could not make any reference to the voter lists while processing the electoral roll under SIR .
