JAC suspends proposed stir

The JAC against the killing of Sheikh Warish at Sajiwajail has suspended its proposed agitation for the time being, following a negotiation with the Chief Minister and SP of Thoubal and Imphal during a meeting.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, convenor of the JAC Moulana Habibullah stated that the meeting agreed to conduct a magisterial enquiry so as to deliver justice for Sheikh Warish of Lilong Dam Makha Leikai.
It also agreed to submit the report of the enquiry to the Govt within 30 days and to suspend all the concerned guard/personnel, who were on guard at Sajiwajail sector 7, on the day of Sheikh's death, added the convenor.
He continued that the meeting also agreed to provide suitable jobs to family members of the deceased and to render ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family as well.
The convenor maintained that the JAC has decided to call off the proposed stir for the moment, as the Chief Minister has promised to fulfil the above points.
On the other hand, the State Government has ordered the constitution of a Magisterial Enquiry into the death of Sheikh Warish.
District Magistrate off Imphal East, Rangitabali Waikhom has been appointed as the enquiry authority to conduct the magisterial enquiry so as to find the facts and circumstances leading to the incident and to suggest remedial measures to avoid recurrence of such incidents in the future.
The State Government further directed that the enquiry report must be submitted within 30 days.
