ICAR organises technology awareness programme / mithun mela

Kamjong, February 14 2020:
A one-day technology awareness programme cum mithun mela was conducted today at Mawai village, Kamjong district Manipur.
Organised by ICAR-National Research Centre (NRC) on Mithun, Medziphema, Dimapur, Nagaland and ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ukhrul, the programme was attended by Dr N Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Imphal as chief guest.
On the occasion, Dr N Prakash motivated the farmers to rear mithun, advocating that jhum cultivation leads to the reduction of forest areas.
He stated that ICAR-NRC on Mithun had developed so many technologies like housing technology, feeding management etc on mithun.
He also advised, if farmers adopt these technologies then they will generate good income.
During the Mithun Mela, competitions and an interaction programme between farmers and scientists were also held.
The programme was attended by Dr Y Ramakrishna, Sr Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK Ukhrul, Dr Pankaj Kumar Saraswat, Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK Tamenglong, Dr L Loken Singh, N Sureshchandra Singh from KVK Ukhrul, Dr L Sunitibala Devi and Dr Kobu Khate from ICAR-NRC on Mithun.
The vote of thanks was given by Dr Sapunii Stephen Hanah, Scientist ICAR NRC on Mithun, Nagaland.
Approximately 156 farmers from different villages of Kasom khullen block of Kamjong District attended the mela.
