Khelo India: AR scouts for talents

Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised scouting of talent under "Khelo India Fitness Assessment in School" in Chandel district from February 13 to 14.Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS), Shillong has been designated as the "Sports School" by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) under State Level Khelo India Centre (SKIC) vertical of Khelo India Scheme.
The School will select 50 boys and 50 girls who will be trained in three sports disciplines such as Athletics, Archery and Fencing.
The students will be selected from Class VI to IX (academic session starting from 1 April 2020) and the complete tuition and boarding/lodging fees will be borne by Sports Authority of India (SAI), said a statement of PRO IGAR (South).
The scouting for the talent is being undertaken in all the States of North Eastern (NE).

At Chandel, a total of 95 children including 57 boys and 38 girls studying between class V to VIII participated in the scouting event organised at the Chandel battalion Headquarters, Jawahar Navodya Vidayalaya and ARPS, Pallel.
During the scouting, acumen for the sports discipline, medical parameters including height, weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) were checked.
Also, few tests as designed by the SAI based on the sports science were conducted to check their ability to pursue particular sports.
Out of the aforesaid participants, 11 children have been short-listed from Chandel for the final screening at ARPS, Shillong under the aegis of HQ DGAR and SAI, said AR.
