Manipur Regulation of Visitors and Tenants Bill-2015 to be tabled in House

Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) on Tuesday decided to temporarily slow down its pace of agitation after the Chief Minister had assured to introduce the proposed "Manipur Regulation of Visitors and Tenants Bill-2015" in the House.
Earlier, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the State Assembly, convened before the commencement of House session on Tuesday, decided to extend the ongoing session till March 16 so that the State Government can introduce the proposed bill in the Assembly.
The BAC meeting held at the Speaker's official chamber decided to have two more sittings on March 13 and March 16 after the leader of the House, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh proposed the same so as to enable the bill to be tabled.

The ongoing Assembly session was due to end on Tuesday.
The bill will be introduced in the House on March 13 and the same will be discussed on March 16, according to the Speaker Th Lokeshwor who informed the House before adjourning it for the day.
Earlier, Ibobi informed the House that the State Government had completed a draft bill which would protect the interests of the indigenous people.
However, he clarified that the Government was unable to table the proposed bill in the House on time as prior consent of the Governor was needed.
He said that a separate directorate would be needed once the bill is passed and enforced as an Act in the State.
All agitations have been temporarily halted, said a leader of the JCILPS, adding that they will wait for further development till March 16 next as the Manipur Government decided to extend the session paving the way for tabling the proposed bill, he added.
Earlier in the day, a large number of womenfolk under the banner of the Women's Wing of the JCILPS held a protest rally which proceeded towards the Chief Minister's bungalow demanding resignation of Ibobi.
The rally started from Khwairamband market of Imphal city was prevented from further proceeding by police in front of the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex.
