Imphal, March 03 2015 :
Manipur Inter-State Taxi Service Workers' Association has ceased passenger service between Imphal and Dimapur from today due to unwarranted levying of tax on winger operators and harassment at Dimapur.
Addressing a press meet at the Association's office located at North AOC today, MISTSWA general secretary Pemo Asem said that wingers plying along the Imphal-Dimapur road have not been allotted proper parking space at Dimapur.
Unnecessary tax collection at their parking lot at Dimapur has prompted the service providers to cease service, he said while urging the public to bear with the inconvenience.
Rs 100 has been charged from each passenger winger, he said.
Speaking at the occasion, general secretary of All Manipur Inter-State Winger Drivers' Welfare Union, Elangbam Sunny said passenger carrier wingers from the State have been restricted from entering the winger parking lot at Dimapur.
They are made to stop around one and a half kilometres before reaching the parking.
This has also caused immense inconvenience to the passengers, he pointed out.
Besides, the All Nagaland Taxi Association, Dimapur Unit had also charged around Rs 600 from wingers from the State.
Again, the ANTA also charged Rs 500 each from all wingers which went to pick-up passengers from Golaghat road each morning, he alleged.
Drawing the attention of the Nagaland Govt regarding the alleged harassment meted out to them by the ANTA Dimapur unit, Elangbam Sunny also urged the State Govt to look into the matter and do the needful at the earliest.
