Manipuri cultural fest held at Silchar

A four day Manipuri cultural festival cum workshop and multicultural events organised by Manipuri Diaspora, Assam was held from Feb 21 to 24 at Banga Bhawan, Silchar.
The programme was sponsored by the Dept of Art & Culture, Govt of Assam, according to a statement.
A cultural rally showing the colourful cultural attires and costumes of Manipuris marked the programme.
The rally was attended by around 2000 Manipuris from all over Assam.
Tareng (Charka), Lubak, Pena, Maibi, Moibung (Sankha), band party, Pung Cholom (Mridanga), Khamba Thoibi and Thang �ta troupes made the rally more colourful and meaningful.
The inaugural lamp was lighted by MLA Dr I Ibohalbi Singh.
The inaugural function was attended amongst others by L Tezomani Singha, Kabindra Purkayastha, former Telecom Minister, Prof N Mohendro Singh, economist, Dr Sourindro Kr Bhattacharjee, educationist.
On the occasion, 54 eminent Manipuri cultural artistes were felicitated by Manipuri Diaspora, Assam.
The valedictory function was attended by A Nandababu Singh, Principal Controller of Examination, APSC as the chief guest.
S Nongban Singh ADC, Cachar, NK Santi Kumar Singh ADC, Hailakandi and M Rajen Singh SP Hailakandi were also present on the dais.
The function was presided by L Tezomani Singha.
