PNNM members visit Makhan in solidarity with families of slain Nagas

Senapati, August 06 2026: A 12-member delegation of the Poumai Naga Naotumai Me (PNNM) on Thursday visited Makhan village to express solidarity with the families of the six Naga civilians killed in the May 13 incident and with the internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking shelter in the village.

As a gesture of support, the delegation extended financial assistance to the families of the six victims as well as to the displaced persons.

The visit came 85 days after the killing of the six civilians, with the bereaved families maintaining that they are still awaiting justice.

During an interaction with the delegation, villagers highlighted the challenges of accommodating nearly 200 displaced persons in the village.

They said that although relief materials have been received from various organisations and agencies, the assistance remains insufficient to meet the long-term needs of the displaced families.

The villagers further pointed out that the State Government has yet to recognise Makhan as an official relief camp.

Owing to the lack of official recognition, they said the support received has been inadequate and warned that food supplies may become insufficient in the coming weeks unless additional assistance is provided.

Reiterating their demand, the families of the deceased urged the authorities to ensure justice for the six slain civilians, stating that their stand has remained unchanged since the day of the incident.

The visit also came ahead of Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh's proposed visit to Makhan on August 8, which has been opposed by the Working Committee, Joint Tribes Council Manipur (WC-JTCM).

The committee has maintained that justice for the six victims must precede any official visit by the Chief Minister.

Speaking to reporters, the Chairman of Makhan Village said the village had never invited the Chief Minister to visit.

"We never asked the Chief Minister to come to Makhan.

From the very beginning, our only demand has been justice for the six victims.

Even after 85 days, justice has not been delivered," he said.

The chairman clarified that he had no personal objection to the Chief Minister visiting the village but stressed that the village would abide by the decision of the WC-JTCM.""The WC-JTCM is the apex body spearheading our demand for justice.

Whatever decision it takes, we will respect and follow.

Since the committee has opposed the Chief Minister's visit and insisted that justice must come first, we stand by that decision," he added.

The PNNM delegation conveyed its condolences to the bereaved families and encouraged the displaced families to remain strong, assuring them of its continued support and solidarity.
