Deliver justice first, says JTCM

Imphal, August 06 2026: The Working Committee, Joint Tribes Council Manipur (WC-JTCM) has urged all Nagas to abstain from participating in Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh's planned visit to Makhan Relief Camp on August 8 .

Until the larger interests of all Naga communities are duly consulted and represented, all Naga leaders, village authorities and CSOs shall refrain from engaging with Government officials, said the committee in a statement issued yesterday.

The Chief Minister has a plan to visit the Makhan Relief Camp on August 8, ostensibly to meet Internally Displaced Persons.

"We categorically and unequivocally state that the WC-JTCM does not approve of this visit at this juncture," it said.

The WC-JTCM said, 84 days after the abduction and brutal killing of six Liangmai Naga men at Leilon Vaiphei village, the investigation has not been concluded and justice is yet to be delivered.

And, the mortal remains of the six men still lie unclaimed at the JNIMS morgue in Imphal.

Against this grave backdrop, any official programme or public relations exercise conducted in Naga areas while the blood of the six Naga men remains unacknowledged is not merely inappropriate, but an insult to the Naga people and to the dead.

Justice first.

Then everything else, said the committee.

"We demand, in the clearest terms, that the Government first deliver justice to the grieving families of the six slain Liangmai brothers before undertaking any such visits, whether humanitarian or political in nature," it said.

Until the conditions stated are met, all Naga people, civil society organisations, and community leaders must abstain from participating in the proposed August 8 programme in any capacity whatsoever, it added.

The Naga people shall also boycott all official engagements that bypass the collective will of the Naga people, the committee said.

All Naga leaders, village authorities, and civil society organizations shall refrain from meeting any Government officials whether for development projects, relief assistance, or political dialogue until the larger interests of all Naga communities are duly consulted and represented, said committee.

No individual or group shall speak for the Nagas without the collective mandate of the people, it added.
