Imphal, March 03 2015 :
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has accused Manipur University authorities of manipulating the process of selecting PhD candidates.
After a list of 18 selected candidates was published, the same list was replaced by a new one which reduced the number of selected candidates by one.
Speaking to media persons at their office today, DESAM general secretary P Premchand said that a written test for selection of PhD candidates in Manipuri Department was held on February 25 and its result was declared the next day.
But the same result was overruled by another result declared on February 28 and it reduced the number of selected candidates from 18 to 17.This evoked a serious question whether the exam result was manipulated in favour of some candidates.
Many candidates who did not reach the cut off mark were also allowed to sit for the entrance test and some of them were even selected.
Even as Manipuri Department has been indulging in all kinds of irregularities in total contravention of all the established rules and norms of Manipur University, the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar have been acting mute and blind, Premchand decried.
In connection with this debacle, the VC and the Registrar should resign on moral ground.
Candidates who could not score even 50 per cent of the total marks were selected which was a clear indication that the exam result was manipulated.
MU authority should initiate befitting action against the Head, Department of Manipuri.
Disciplinary action should be initiated against those responsible for leakage of question paper for a written test conducted by Physics Department earlier, he added.
