Imphal, March 03 2015 :
The National Electoral Rolls Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP) was launched in Manipur on Tuesday.
Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur O Nabakishore stated that the programme was launched under the direction of the Election Commission of India with the prime objective to bring out a total error free and authenticated electoral roll.
Talking to mediapersons at his office chamber in New Secretariat on Tuesday, Nabakishore said the programme is a positive step for rectification of the errors that had remained in the electoral rolls despite routine revisions.
Elimination of multiple entries, repeating images and repeating EPIC numbers will be the main focus of the programme, he stated.
NERPAP will focus on improving image quality of electors along with sorting issues like corrections of errors etc.
During the NERPAP, Electronic Privacy Information Centre (EPIC) data of electors will be linked with Aadhar data of UIDAI for the purpose of authentication.
The electors will be able to feed their respective Aadhar number through sms, email, mobile application and National Voters Service Portal (NVSP) by using web services through election commission website.
They can also feed Aadhar number by making a call at 1950 to state call centres or by submitting the details of Aadhar number and EPIC number in a hard copy of duly filled up Form along with photocopy of both the documents, namely EPIC and Aadhar card.
Further, the collection and feeding will also be done by Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) by organizing special camp, Voter Facilitation Centres, e-Seva centres and Citizen Service Centres authorised by the DEOs (District Magistrate).
The NERPAP has been provided a facility for voluntarily disclosure of multiple entries by the voters.
The electors with multiple registrations in electoral rolls have been advised to fill Form-7 for deletion of their names from the places except where they reside.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will also be assigned to collect the details of electors during door to door survey.
Nabakishore announced that a mass enrolment drive for women voters will be launched in the state too on March 8, 2015 on the occasion of International Women's Day and urged women electors to come out in large numbers for enrolment.
Appealing to civil society organisations, non-government organisations, local clubs and women organisations in the state to honour the day and participate in the special drive, he announced that NERPAP will distribute T-shirts and banners emblazoned with the slogan 'Proud to Be a Woman Voter' on the occasion.
The materials can be collected from the CEO office at Lamphelpat on March 5 after submitting a formal request written on the official letterheads of the respective organisations, he stated.
