Poor turn out of students recorded on day 1

Even though the State Government ordered reopening of educational institutions in Greater Imphal which remained closed for more than 20 days in the aftermath of the killing of Robinhood, the number of students turning up for classes today was thin.
Government schools located in Imphal area were opened today for resumption of normal classes but the institutions were closed due to low turn out of students at various institutions.
Ananda Singh Higher Secondary school was forced to shut down by locals of the area, stated sources.
Meanwhile, TG Higher Secondary school suspended class for today after the Principal was asked to close the school by some unknown persons, added sources.
Other higher secondary schools were also made to shut down as only a thin number of students turned up for class.

Normal classes resumed in different colleges today located in and around Imphal city earlier today.
Though classes continued at different colleges like DM College of Arts and GP Women's College, few students turned up in DM College of Science and DM College of Commerce which led to cancellation of classes.
The Imphal College too experienced thin number of students coming for class and normal class could not be resumed.
Mixed responses were seen at private educational institutes.
Some institutions remained closed today defying the order of the State Government fearing any untoward incident.
Though various schools opened their gates, few students came for classes resulting in the cancellation of classes.
Prominent schools of the State including Catholic schools resumed classes even though the student turn out was pegged somewhere at 50-60 pc.
A wary parent speaking to The Sangai Express expressed apprehension that the present education scenario could lead to academic loss of students.
The agitators and the State Government should make education a disturbance free zone for the sake of society, he added.
Education Minister M Okendro had earlier appealed to the school and college authorities to conduct extra classes to compensate the lost days.
The Government announced closure of educational institutions in Greater Imphal area to ensure physical safety and security of the students as there was continuous curfew, bandh and general strike and disturbances created by the agitation demanding implementation of ILPS.
It may be mentioned here that Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) had earlier filed a PIL at the High Court of Manipur pleading for a directive to reopen educational institutes.
