Pro-ILPS protest goes on

Police fired several rounds of tear gas shells upon protesters who blocked the Uripok-Kangchup road today demanding ILPS in the State.
The incident happened around 7 pm when a large number of ILPS protesters came out on the street and blocked the Uripok-Kangchup road by burning tyres and placing various other hard objects on the middle of the road and disturbed normal vehicular movement.
The protesters burned tyres at different places from the edge of BT flyover bridge on Uripok side up to Naoremthong bridge.
The burning of tyres and blocking started minutes after the womenfolk of Uripok -Kangchup road staged a protest by forming a human chain.
The protesters pelted stones and fired slingshots toward the police personnel.
Police personnel prevented all the vehicles heading toward Uripok-Kangchup road from Maharani Bridge and from the edge of the BT Flyover.
Later, a team of police personnel led by the Additional SP Imphal West arrived at the spot and after taking permission from the Duty Magistrate fired several rounds of tear gas shells toward the protesters.
Normal vehicular movement was restored after the police dispersed the protesters.
Before the incident, a peaceful protest was held along the Uripok-Kangchup road from early morning where a large number of womenfolk of various localities along the Uripok-Kangchup road came out on the street and staged a sit in protest in their respective localities.
During the sit in protest all the shops and business establishments remained closed along the road.
A large number of womenfolk came out along the roads at Palace Gate, Wangkhei, Soibam Leikai, New Checkon and Nongmeibung area and staged demonstrations.
On the other hand, locals and members of JAC against the brutal killing of Robinhood today carried out protest and staged roadblock along Dingku road by placing various objects on the road.
Meanwhile, sit-in protests were held at different parts of the State demanding implementation of ILPS.
Progressive Mahila Mandal, Wakhong, Sagolmang Women's Prohibition Committee, Khundrakpam Santi Radha Marup, Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai Chaokhat Nupi Lup, Khundrakpam Makha Leikai Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Marup, Heigrujam Apunba Meira Paibi, Morning Star Club staged demonstrations today.
