Imphal, August 03 2015:
Categorically stating that the refusal of the State Government to acknowledge the aspiration of the people will lead to further unwanted incidents, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has stated that the present movement launched by the people is nothing less than an attempt to protect the indigenous people of the place.
In a statement, the assistant media co-ordinator of JCILPS said that history is proof that the Government has always refused to learn from the past and recalled the massive movement launched by students in 1980 and 1984 against the influx of outsiders into Manipur.
Instead of drafting a Bill which will be acceptable to the people, the Government is intent on unleashing its force on the young students and this is amply testified by the killing of young student S Robinhood on July 8, said JCILPS.
To subvert the movement of the students, the Government forced the closure of all educational institutions, said JCILPS and added that now it is again forcing the students to attend schools by ordering the re-opening of schools.
The decision to re-open the schools was taken even as the mortal remains of Robinhood lies unclaimed, said JCILPS and questioned why the Government has not done anything to ensure peaceful environment in all the schools.
The people and the JCILPS can never accept the excesses committed by the Government's forces against young students.
Even young girl students were assaulted by male policemen, which is unacceptable, it said.
The Government should not forget that they are there for the people, said JCILPS and appealed to the people to streng- then the civil disobedience movement which is in force.
