Educational institutions to be boycotted

The Joint Students Union of Government Higher Secondary School has imposed an indefinite boycott on every educational institutions in the State after the State Government issued an order earlier to reopen schools and colleges from today.
Convener of the union, Surjit in a press meet held today in Imphal declared the boycott after the State Government closed and reopened the schools at their own wish.
He alleged that the Education Department has no regard and respect for the students' community and it is in contravention of 'Right to Education' .
He stated that a large number of students from different schools protested against such action taken up by the State Government forcing students to go to school when the mortal remains of their friend late Sapam Robinhood is still there in the mortuary.
Condemning the excessive force used by security forces deployed in the area to disperse the student protesters he stated that some security persons even tried to shoot them at point blank range.
Further, male police persons even dispersed the girl students using brute force and such action must be taken seriously.
He added that various members of the student union are frequently threatened by unknown persons and this activity must be stopped at any cost.
The indefinite ban imposed on all educational institutions covers private educational institutions, private coaching centres and other Government offices.
He stated that anyone who tries to defy the ban must be held responsible for any untoward incidents which may arise out of it.
Later, he said that the Joint Students Union of Government Higher Secondary School will continue support to the pro-ILP movement spearheaded by JCILPS and the Student Wing.
