Nunghlung visits flood affected places

Chandel A/C MLA ST Nunghlung Victor today made a field assessment of the flood affected villages of K Molnom, K Tingkhangphai, Patjang, S Molnomjang, K Laitui and Phayang located within Chakpikarong sub-division of Chandel district.
As all these five villages were flooded by water overflowing from Chakpi river, all the residents have been staying at relief camps and other safer places.
Even as the water level has receded, all the homesteads remain covered with a thick layer of mud.
Due efforts to remove the layer of mud have been initiated.
The MLA interacted with village chiefs on the immediate necessities of the affected people.
According to the village chiefs, villagers whose paddy fields have been flooded would be provided pea seeds, black dal seeds, potato seeds etc as there not even a remote chance of paddy afresh this kharif season.
The MLA also visited Chakpikarong Khunphi, Ruwangchang (Tera) and Novokom villages.
He held a meeting with public leaders at Chakpikarong community hall.
There he said that he would urge the Government to construct a suspension bridge as re-construction of the snapped Chakpikarong bridge would take a long time.
Later speaking to media persons, Nunghlung Victor said that many houses are still filled with thick layers of mud.
Likewise, Chakpikarong CHC, Chakpikarong Government Higher Secondary School and many other Government offices are also filled with thick layers of mud.
All the patients who were undergoing diagnosis or treatment at the CHC have been shifted away.
He then urged the Government to press into service necessary machinery to remove the mud layers as soon as possible.
After the Chakpikarong bridge snapped, construction of road has started from the direction of Serou in order to restore connectivity between Chakpikarong and Sugnu, Nunghlung said.
UNC president Gaidon Kamei, NPF State unit president Awangbow Newmai, social worker SP Koloni, social worker John S Kharta, CNPO president WS Kanrah and ANTA president W Ng Kohring accompanied the MLA.
The team also provided relief materials to the flood affected people.
