The Lok Sabha Members of Parliament from Manipur, Thangso Baite and Dr Thokchom Meinya have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament House today on the recent flood in Manipur.
In the memorandum, the MPs detailed the recent flood in terms of its severity and devastating damages.
There have been heavy flood in the valley districts and Thoubal in particular, breaking river banks submerging many villages; damaging all standing crops; and causing road while communication network completely collapsed as a number of concrete bridges were broken/damaged.
In the hill districts, the situation is even worse particu- larly in Chandel and Chura-chandpur.
One main bridge at Pallen and Lokchao which connects Manipur and Myan-mar was irreparably damaged.
A number of small concrete bridges connecting district hqs with sub-division/block offices were completely wa-shed away, added the me- morandum.
Joumol village in Chandel district has been completely swept away by landslide on August 1 causing a reported death toll of more than 20 people.
Under the circumstances, the MPs drew the personal attention of the Prime Minister to immediately look into the grim flood situation and to take up timely urgent appropriate remedial (relief and rehabilitation) measures to restore the communication infrastructure.
