Imphal, August 03 2015:
Manipur Watch Initiative, an NGO based in Manipur, has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi supporting the ongoing widespread demand of ILP system in Manipur.
A press meet was held in this regard at the Manipur Press Club at Majorkhul, Imphal.
Speaking to media persons, convener H Nabashyam of the NGO said, "The current agitation for the demand of ILP in Manipur is very reasonable.
Migrants have comprised a major chunk of the total population of Manipur, as per the census report of 2011 .
All concerned should be aware that the indigenous population cannot be sacrificed at the altar of the Constitution" .
He also suggested a dialogue, if required, among the National political parties and regional parties may be initiated by the Centre.
Convenor H Nabashyam also criticised the State Government led by CM O Ibobi for mishandling the entire issue and misleading the public from the very beginning-from passing a Bill in the Assembly then withdrawing it forthwhile, telling the people that they would frame another Bill to protect the indigenous population within the framework of the Constitution.
The Manipur Watch Initiative has also submitted a copy each of the memorandum, addressing the above demands, to Manipur Governor and Chief Minister.
