ULB, Panchayat polls set for June

The State Cabinet has decided to hold the elections to 26 urban local bodies and Panchayats on June 5 and June 26 respectively.
With Chief Minister N Biren in the chair, the State Cabinet held a meeting this evening at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
As per the decisions adopted at the meeting, the date of publication of draft/preliminary electoral roll for the Panchayat polls is April 4 while the last date for filing claims and objections is April 13 .
The date of publication of final electoral roll is April 27 whereas the date of public notice of election is May 15 .
The last date of filing nominations is May 22 while scrutiny would be done on May 23 .
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 26 .
The date of polling for the Panchayats is June 26 and the date of re-poll, if any, is June 28 .

The votes would be counted on June 30 while July 7 has been fixed for completion of the election process.
For the ULB election, the draft/preliminary electoral roll would be published on March 31 and April 3 has been fixed as the last date for filing claims and objections.
The date of publication of final electoral roll is April 20 .
With May 9 fixed as the late date of filing nominations, scrutiny would be done on May 10.The last date of withdrawal of candidature is May 12 .
Voting would done between 8 am and 4 pm of June 5 .
Re-poll, if any, would be held on June 7 .
Votes would be counted on June 9 while June 15 has been fixed as the date of completion of the election process.
The Cabinet meeting also adopted a decision on starting construction works of Imphal Ring Road and traffic junctions of Imphal city shortly.
The Cabinet gave its consent to implementation of the Imphal City Integrated Sewerage System Phase-2 .
The Cabinet meeting also gave green signal to development of Manipur IT Special Economic Zone at the cost of Rs 30 crore.
The State Cabinet further adopted another decision on holding tender for rejuvenation of Lamphelpat water body to alleviate urban flooding and provide sustainable water sources for Imphal city and promote eco-tourism at the cost of Rs 600 crore.
The Cabinet meeting agreed on re-naming Loktak Lake Eco-Tourism Project as Sustainable Loktak Lake Restoration and Livelihood Improvement Project.
The Cabinet also gave consent for direct purchase of land for construction of sewerage treatment plant and sewage stations of Integrated Sewerage System for Imphal Phase-2 .
The State Cabinet resolved to re-impose AFSPA in some areas including Bishnupur from where disturbed area status was already lifted.
The meeting decided to hire 2000 trainers for giving IT training to the youth/students of the State.
The Cabinet further decided to appoint 41 staff of Transport Department.
It includes 8 LDCs, one SI (Enforcement), four SIs (Tax), 5 ASIs (Enforcement), 11 checkers, nine peons and three chowkidars.
The Cabinet meeting also agreed to engage four lawyers to deal with cases directed at Forest and Environment.
