Imphal, March 16 2023:
After several village authorities/villages of Sadim hill range, Senapati submitted reports of voluntarily destroying poppy plantations in support of the Government's War on Drugs, Senapati district administration today checked whether poppy plantation has been stopped or is continuing at those places using drone.
The drone survey was carried out under the initiative of Senapati DC Mahesh Chaudhari and it was jointly carried out by the Senapati district administration, Senapati police, Forest officials and staff of Revenue Department.
The survey which started at around 9 am verified whether the reports submitted by village/village authorities were true or false.
The drone captured images of fields burnt after poppy plants were razed to the ground.
In the meantime, Senapati police searched a number of houses at different villages and checked whether the villagers were storing harvested poppy.
Senapati DC Mahesh Chaudhari said that the district administration and the district police have been working hard to see that not a single poppy plant grows in Senapati district.
Destruction of poppy plantations by villagers voluntarily is a landmark achievement of the War on Drugs, he said.
Informing that the drone survey would continue tomorrow too at other places, the DC warned that the district administration and the district police would take up necessary action immediately if any village is found cultivating poppy or the poppy plantations are not destroyed yet.
