PHED Minister L Susindro Meitei has informed that necessary arrangements have been made at the Khuman Lampak Sports complex where at least 100 water filling stations will be set up.
The Government has made elaborate arrangements to relieve the people from the acute water crisis which has left a harsh impact on the day to day lives of those living in Imphal and adjoining areas.
Speaking to the media today evening, L Susindro Meitei informed that necessary arrangements have been made at the Khuman Lampak Sports complex where at least 100 water filling points will be made operational.
Sharing the Government's plans to fight the crisis said, the PHED Minister said, "Today itself we are planning to make about 100 water filling points at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
The water is coming from Chingkhei Ching, which is 45 MLD (million litres per day).
100 water tankers will be filled at a single time.
We are preparing to inaugurate the water filling stations tomorrow itself by evening.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh will do it.
This (venue) is most convenient because it is the center of Imphal.
Everyone can come and collect the water from here" .
The Minister saud that the arrangement will continue for a month and will be free of cost.
After one month the Government will supply from the water supply area.
The PHED Minister also highlighted about the severity of the situation, elaborating, "In Imphal we require more than 130 MLD per day and we have a source from the Chingkhei Ching at Thoubal dam.
However this source can supply only 40 MLD and so we are supplying the water turnwise.
There are some places which do not have pipeline or cannot be reached.
For such places we are using portable water reservoirs" .
L Susindro Meitei said that deforestation has led to decline in rainfall causing water crisis.
He said, "Our Chief Minister has already struck a tough stand against deforestation" .
The Government is also trying to get water from other sources, the PHED Minister said and added that plans are on to bring water from Loktak Lake and from 2-3 other sources.
