Lighting fire in reserved, protected forests banned

Imphal, March 16 2023:
Noney district magistrate Joseph Pauline Kamson has ordered a total ban on lighting/burning/kindling, etc., of fire on the roads or paths adjoining or passing through reserved and protected forests in the entire Noney district.
In an order issued Wednesday, DM Joseph informed that the district administration has received reports about numerous instances of lighting of fire in reserved and protected forests in different parts of the district, posing grave danger to human lives, properties and ecosystem.
Any person found lighting fire in the said forests will be.
punished under Section 26 and 33(l)(d) and Section 33(2) of Indian Forest Act, 1927 .
Furthermore, Section 64 of Indian Forest Act, 1927 provides power to any forest officer or police officer, without any order from a magistrate and without a warrant, to arrest any person against whom a reasonable suspicion exists in connection with forests-offence punishable with imprisonment for one month or up to five years with fine, it cautioned.
