Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Kh Indu, advisor, Nupi Samaj stated that women in Manipur are well aware of the ramifications of alcohol abuse.
Elaborating on this point, she stated that alcohol abuse has led to many cases of domestic abuse meted out to women and children, violent brawls and led to the deterioration of the economic condition of uncountable households.
As such, she condemned the State Government's decision to legalise alcohol and demanded its revocation.
The protestors at today's sit-in wielded many placards with inscriptions such as "Stop alcohol legalisation", "Revenue collected from alcohol cannot be bartered with human lives", "Will better quality alcohol not affect health or cause crimes?" and so on.
They also shouted many slogans demanding the State Government to revoke the decision to legalise alcohol and to save people from alcohol abuse.
