State Police celebrates 121st B'day

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has called upon the State police forces for collective efforts towards maintenance of law and order and prevention of drug trafficking in the State.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the 121st Raising Day of Manipur Police observed at the parade ground to Ist Manipur Rifles here today, Chief Minister O Ibobi pointed out that frequent incidents of bomb attacks and intimidation by anti-social elements have been hampering the pace of development in the State.
At what time, these anti-social elements would be sneaking and triggering bombs in the congested Bazar area or bylanes is difficult to say and it is not possible to frisk all the people coming to the Bazar.
The Manipur Police and the Government could take up various stringent measures to maintain law and order problem and ensure protection to the life and security of the people as well as their properties.
But how such measures could affect the lives of common people also need to be considered.
So, it is time to think over whether all these subversive activities are hampering the growth of the State and its people.
On the other hand, it is time for collective efforts towards preventing the problem of drug trafficking in the society which is posing a serious threat among the youths who are the future pillars of the society, the Chief Minister exhorted.
Pointing out that the number of Manipur Police personnel posted or deployed in the hill areas of the State is still very less, the Chief Minister said that this has necessitated recruitment of more manpower and the Government would be accordingly pay necessary attention.
Presiding over the function, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also in charge of Home, noted that there are more than 30 UG groups in Manipur.
So, the police have a great role to play in facing these numerous UG groups and at the same to deal with the various crimes taking place in the society.
Taking into consideration of this fact, foot patrolling has been initiated and many police personnel are sending for acquiring necessary training, he added.
He also called upon for joint efforts for restoring peace and normalcy in the State.
Director General of Police MK Das was the chief host of the celebration marked by impressive march past parade participated by 18 contingents of different units of Manipur Police.
The march past parade was commanded by Commandant of 6th IRB N Herojit.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh also presented commendation certificates to 169 personnel of Manipur Police.
Council of Ministers, MLAs, top officials of Civil and Police were also present on the occasion.
