Considering the huge number of candidates appearing (15,006), for the recently conducted preliminary test of the Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination 2013, candidates have appealed the concerned authority to increase the number of candidates to be selected for mains to 12 or 13 times the number of vacancies.
The candidates have urged the same to the Governor of Manipur, Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Govt of Manipur, Chairman and Secretary of the Manipur Public Service Commission.
Briefing media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, the candidates cited the norms of UPSC and other States Public Service Commissions that selected 12 or 13 times the total no of vacancies available instead of 1:5 as decided by the MPSC.
The candidates said that the State is facing serious unemployment problem, and that the assessment of the quality of the candidates lies exclusively on the Main Written Examination and Personal Interview, but not the preliminary stage which serves only the purpose of screening serious candidates.
The candidates added, it is not appropriate to select 455 candidates only (5 times the total post i.e 91) out of 15,006 candidates appearing for the Main Written Exam and that the constitutional body such as MPSC would not have any problem to conduct the Main Written Exam for around 1183 candidates (13 times the total post) .
