Raising serious question on the state of security in the hill district here, a powerful bomb exploded in the heart of Ukhrul town on Saturday night.
The blast took place at Gandhi Chowk, Ukhrul town hall at about 8.40 pm.
The explosion was reported to be so powerful that the wooden walls of nearby shops felt the impact.
However, there were no reports of human casualty in the bomb blast.
The blast happened in front of Gandhiji statue and it left a crater of one foot depth and two square feet in diameter on the road.
Police arrived at the spot 25-minute later.
They, however, said the explosion was caused by a crude bomb-a kind which has been used by certain armed groups triggering blast in the town.
The Saturday's bomb blast today is the fifth in a month's time in Ukhrul.
A concerned public have raised question on the state of security in the district headquarters that has been witnessing a sporadic violent incidents.
