Street vendors urge for vending committee

The Khwairamband Keithel Lambi Mataida Potpham Phambi Lup has submitted written representations to the Chief Secretary, Imphal West SDPO (Traffic) and OC City Police Station to form a Town Vending Committee in accordance to the Supreme Court order of September 9 this year.
According to the representations signed by the Lup's secretary Ningthoujam Rina and submitted yesterday, the Supreme Court issued an order on September 9 directing Chief Secretaries/administrators of all States and Union Territories to form town vending committees under provisions of the National Policy on Urban Street Vendors 2009.Citing the same Supreme Court order, the Khwairamband Keithel Lambi Mataida Potpham Phambi Lup was urging the State Government to issue necessary directives to relevant departments in order to form a town vending committee for Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, executive member of the Lup Moirangthem Bina lamented that street vendors of Imphal city are still to run their business in peace even after the Supreme Court has directed all the States to protect street vendors and let them do their business without unnecessary disturbance.
Police are still treating street vendors with disrespect and scorn, she said.
