Jiribam, October 19 2013 :
To register protest over alleged indifferent attitude of the Govt to the demand for filling of va-cant teachers' posts in Govt schools, four Jiribam based students' bodiesAMSU, DESAM, MSF and KSA, have announced to enforce indefinite economic blockade from (Saturday) midnight.
Announcing this in a press meet held today at the office of AMSU Jiri District Committee here, the student lea- ders said they could not accept the move of the authority concerned to fill vacant post of teachers at Jiribam Higher Secondary School by transferring teachers from already understaffed Borobekra Hig-her Secy School.
Pointing out that Boro-bekra HSS is also in Jiribam, the student leaders rejected outright the proposed arrangement.
Demanding the authority concerned to do away with the system of 'utilisation of teachers,' they said that the system has caused shortage of teachers in Jiribam.
The student leaders also strongly demanded appointment of Jiribam locals as tea- chers for the schools.
Further, announcing that the student bodies would start inspecting attendance of tea-chers in educational institu- tions of Jiribam soon, they warned of taking stringent action against any local teachers found sending substitutes.
Though it is undesirable to cause public inconvenience by imposing blockade along the highway, the bodies are compelled to take such measures to register protest over the alleged failure of the Govt to turn its promise into action, they said.
They also decided not to allow the joining of one teacher from Borobekra Hr Sec School and four others from Imphal who were posted at Jiribam Hr Sec School.
