NSC team collects report

A four-member study group of National Security Council arrived in the State capital today to study and assess the ground security situation of the State.
The NSC team had an audience with teachers of Govt colleges and schools, Editors of local newspapers and senior journalists today at Hotel Imphal.
The four-member NSC study group included BL Vohra, retd IPS officer, BS Lamba, retired IAS officer, Dr M Amarjeet Singh, Associate Professor of Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi and Kishalay Bhattacharjee, journalist.
Briefing media persons, BS Lamba said the group is here to get the account of the public on political, social, economic, culture and insurgency concerns of the people of Manipur.
The group will talk to cross sections of the society including Govt officials, police and para-military forces, teachers, journalists, civil society organisations and other stake holders during their week-long stay in the State capital, Lamba said.
A source also said that the group is also planning to visit Senapati, Kangpokpi and Moreh.
Later today evening, the study group met teachers of Govt schools and colleges.
M Joykumar, senior lecturer of Mekola Gulap Higher Secondary School, who took part in the meeting told a group of reporters that they highlighted problems concerning the education sector of the State.
Pointing out that insurgency problems have an impact on education sector, the teachers explicitly put forward the need to take initiative to engage militants for talks in order to end the problems by the Central Govt, Joykumar said.
Besides, the woes of college teachers, non- regularisation of many contractual lecturers of higher secondary schools, the plights of teachers of Govt aided colleges and the urgent need to end corruption in education sector were also highlighted to the study group by the teachers, Joykumar said.
The study group later met Editors and senior journalists.
