Imphal, March 04 2015:
Following threatening phone calls to Arambam Babina, vice-president of Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) by the HOD of Manipuri Department Professor S Sanatombi on March 3, MUSU has demanded immediate resignation of the teacher and declared that other activities of PhD pertaining to enrolment of fresh candidates in Manipuri Department have been banned, said MUSU functionaries in a press meet held today at MU, Canchipur.
Babina was allegedly threatened by the Professor through the phone after MUSU brought out the anomalies with regard to the results of the entrance test held for enrolment of PhD students in Manipuri Department recently.
Sarangthem David, president MUSU said that the words used by the particular Professor was unbecoming of her status and the offensive words have turned out to be a serious psychological harassment to the victim.
In the entrance exam held earlier for enrolment of MA students, the department (Manipuri Department) defied all norms of the university and selected 101 students exceeding the available seat of 100 students for the academic session, he added.
He further said that the incident has been reported to the Vice-Chancellor and also to the Joint Students Co-ordination Committee.
The authority concerned has been urged to take up necessary action at the earliest.
He added that there are reports of conspiracy to manipulate entrance exams and PhD entrance tests of various departments of the university.
MUSU would take up necessary steps to find out the truth.
Furthermore, he said that all issues concerning the university should be taken up with MUSU in the first place before other student bodies volunteer to intervene.
