Imphal, March 04 2015:
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has urged to include its five points already made known to the State Government in the legislation of a new law for protection of the indigenous people of Manipur.
According to a statement of JCILPS issued by its Convenor of Publicity Committee W Ananda Meetei, the Committee had earlier submitted a memorandum on ILP legislation to the State Government for inclusion of five points with respect to issue of pass or permit to migrants, cut-off base year of 1951 in demographic influx into the State, giving no land ownership rights to all non-indigenous people, strengthening of labour department for registration and regulation of inter-state migrant labourers, and detection and deportation of illegal migrants.
It further said that the Committee is not fully satisfied with the extension of the Assembly session.
However, it has firm belief that the State Government will surely act in the interest of the people of the State.
The continuous agitation and movement of the people have compelled the State Government to extend the Assembly session for tabling the proposed bill on ILP.
Moreover, any new law for protection of the indigenous people of Manipur will not be effective without those five points put forward by the Committee, it reiterated.
