Manipur Pavilion opens at IFFI 'Film Bazaar'

Manipuri IAS officer Armstrong Pame on Monday officially opened Manipur pavilion at 'Film Bazaar' of the 53rd IFFI, which is being held in Panaji, Goa.
'Film Bazaar' is South Asia's largest film networking platform held alongside the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
After Union information & broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur formally inaugurated the 'Film Bazaar' as part of the 53rd IFFI at a special venue at Marriot Resort Hotel in Goa on Monday morning, Armstrong Pame officially opened the Manipur pavilion at the same venue later.
Armstrong is currently deputy secretary in the ministry of information & broadcasting.
Armstrong Pame told The People's Chronicle that he being a Manipuri is proud of opening a special Manipur pavilion at 'Film Bazaar' of IFFI-2022 .
Allowing the opening of Manipur pavilion in a special manner and the ministry providing a complimentary stall forsaking stall deposit amount of Rs 12 lakh in honour of golden jubilee Manipuri cinema was indeed an honour for Manipuri cinema, he said.
According to Armstrong Pame, opening of Manipur pavilion at the prestigious event like IFFI for the first time was not easy as setting up of a stall not only requires minimum deposit of Rs 12 lakh but also depends on availability.
However, the Government of India allowed opening of Manipur pavilion this time in honour of attainment of 50 years of Manipuri cinema, he said and expressed elation on opening of the stall by himself.
While stating that Manipuri cinema could play a big role in enhancing economy of the state, Armstrong Pame stressed the need for developing Manipuri cinema.
He also said that Manipuri film industry could reduce unemployment problem in the state at least to some extent and the Union ministry is giving special attention towards developing regional films.
He then stressed the need for Manipur state to have an effective film policy like the one being currently adopted by Rajasthan.
The IAS officer further said that the ministry will study the possibility of setting up a regional office of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in Manipur as proposed by the state government.
He also exhorted the Manipur delegates at IFFI-2022 to highlight the film friendly aspects of Manipur to attract potential financers and collaborators.
Apart from Armstrong Pame, NFDC regional officer Alexander Leo Paul hailing from Tamenglong district also shouldered immense responsibility in opening of Manipur pavilion at IFFI-2022.It was with the help of Alexander Leo that display of the scenic Loktak lake at the pavilion and short videos on beauties of Manipur could attract numerous film makers and producers.
At the Manipur Pavilion, Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) secretary Sunzu Bachaspatimayum, Film Forum Manipur chairman Laimayum Surjakant, DIPR Manipur staff and functionaries of Cine Artistes and Technicians Association (CATA) are giving a detailed look at how filmmakers or financers from outside the state and abroad must chose Manipur as their next film destination.
Notably, many filmmakers from cities like Mumbai have shown keen interest to collaborate with Manipur and to make Manipur their next shooting location.
