Bird rescued, nets seized

Imphal, November 21 2022:
A joint team of WBCC-Manipur, UWLPC-Manipur and Wildlife Conservation Committee, Manipur, all of which are constituent members of Joint Co-ordination Committee in Wildlife and Biodiversity (JCCWB) Manipur, along with police support rescued a 'Nganu Mitngoubi' bird and seized eight bird nets from Ikop Pat during a drive conducted in the wee hours on Monday.
JCCWB convenor Romesh Ningthoujam informed that several migratory birds are visiting the lakes of the state during winter season and appealed to the people living nearby the lakes to protect them.
It is unfortunate that some individuals are trying to catch these birds amid the initiative taken up by forest department and different organisations to protect them, he said.
He also appealed to the public to inform nearby forest office or clubs or organisations if they came across such illegal practice of catching wild birds.
He thanked the volunteers and police personnel, who participated in the drive.
The rescued bird was released On the spot as it was not suffering from any injury.
