Locals protest 'misrepresentation' of Phayeng Uyok

Locals of Phayeng Uyok in Imphal West staged a protest demonstration against the alleged depiction of the village which has many sacred places as a part of another district and the harassment meted out to the residents by cadres of a SoO outfit.
The protesters, apart from urging the Government to look into the matter and redress the grievances of the people, held placards which read "Withdraw renaming of village", "Form Boundary Commission", "Clarify difference between Kangpokpi district and Sadar Hill", "Stop British colonial policy Sadar Hills", "Stop land encroachment with SoO arm group" etc.
Chief of Phayeng Awang Laibung Ningthoujam Toyai said that Uyok is a special place for the people of Phayeng and has many sacred places such as shrines of Ibudhou Koubru, Ibudhou Chingu Ningthou Soraren, Ibudhou Loijing, Ebendhou Ema Phouoibigi, Ebendhou Ema Imoinu etc.
He urged the Government to form a Boundary Commission and solve the issue at the earliest.
