Minister Letpao Haokip distributes Rs 6.75 crore to 18,000 organic farmers

Imphal, November 21 2022:
Under the third phase of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East (MOVCD-NER) in respect of Manipur, Horticulture & Soil Conservation minister Letpao Haokip distributed Rs 6.75 crore through direct benefit transfer (DBT) to 18,000 newly registered organic farmers for procuring farm inputs.
The amount was transferred to the bank account of each beneficiary through DBT system during a function held on Monday at the Sanjenthong office of horticulture & soil conservation department by minister Letpao.
Apart from handing over farm equipment including power tiller, weeders and earth augers to 18 farm producer companies based in hill areas, the minister also distributed financial assistance to 15 young entrepreneurs of the state under Vocal for Local programme at the event.
Minister Letpao Haokip told farmers at the event that government is making all-out efforts to make horticulture & soil conservation an active department.
While stating that the department is planning to promote cultivation of different high value crops and fruits like blue berry and avocado in the hills areas, he conveyed that the department has been providing small farm machines to farmers in hill areas as big machines are unsuitable and expressed hope that farmers would be able to enhance crop production with the use of small machines.
The event was also attended by additional chief secretary P Vaiphei, horticulture & soil conversation director Hani Chara, joint director K Devdutta Sharma and other officials of the department.
