Imphal, November 21 2022:
Research Forum Manipur (REFORM) celebrated its 16th foundation day at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday with Manipur University of Culture (MUC) vice chancellor Prof Paonam Gunindro, REFORM vice president Prof Ch Ibohal Meitei, founder president Dr Ningthoujam Birchandra and REFORM ex-president Mutua Bahadur as the presidium members.
In his speech, Paonam Gunindro said that Manipur is a land full of talented individuals as is evident from the age-old inscriptions on the monoliths found in the state.
There are around 1000 languages in the world, of which less than 100 have own scripts.
Manipur has its own language and script with a history spanning over 2000 years.
As such, it is a rare and shocking incident to have had its script replaced by a foreign script and the people taking the foreign script as their own.
Thus, there is a need to conduct researches on such priceless "assets", he said, while appreciating the work taken up by REFORM and other likeminded organisations in this regard.
During the occasion, 'Eikhoigi Lan-gei ching', a book penned by Dr Ningthoujam Birchandra was also released.
