Special focus on North East: Ramdas Athawale

Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Ramdas Athawale has stated that his Ministry gives special focus to the North East States while implementing several social security schemes.
Athawale arrived in Imphal on a two-day visit to the State today.
Addressing a press conference after reviewing some Central sponsored schemes being implemented in the State, the MoS said that the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched various developmental and social security schemes in the country.
Saying that the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has released Rs 195.43 crore under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in the period of seven years (2014-22) benefiting a total of 10.18 lakh people, Ramdas Athawale continued that another 3.52 lakh people have been benefited under PMMY by providing loan amounting to Rs 1881.07 crore in the State till date.
Free LPG connection has been given to about 1.79 lakh Below Poverty Line families in the State, the Union Minister said and added that his Ministry has also released funds for constructing 16,000 houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) and 6,000 houses under PMAY (Urban).
The Union Minister also called on Chief Minister N Biren this evening.
He will leave Imphal tomorrow.
