AR jawan killed in blast, another hurt

Imphal, January 05 2022:
One jawan of 16 Assam Rifles was killed in an IED blast at Lilong Ushoipokpi Sangomsang along the Imphal-Moreh Road, today at around 1.45 pm while another jawan was seriously injured.
The attack came just a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the State capital.
Shortly after the incident, the two jawans were rushed to Noor Hospital Lilong, but the doctors there declared one of them as brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Rifleman L Wangshu (30) of Arunachal Pradesh.
He was struck by bomb splinters on his abdomen.
The injured jawan, on the other hand, has been identified as Pinku Das (28) from Tripura.
He has been shifted to Shija Hospital.
A team of Thoubal police led by SP Haobijam Jogeshchandra and other high ranking officers of Assam Rifles rushed to the blast site for investigation.
According to the locals of Lilong, the IED exploded just next to the water reservoir located at the foothills of Lilong Ushoipokpi Sangomsang.
It is reported that the Road Opening Party (ROP) of 16 Assam Rifle E Company occasionally take their lunch at the blast site.
The body of deceased has been deposited to JNIMS morgue for postmortem this evening.
Lilong police have registered a case.
