Imphal, November 12 2014:
The Tangkgul Naga Long (TNL), the apex Tangkhul body has on Wednesday has appealed to the Seijang Development Committee (SDC) for immediate suspension of the indefinite bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road, saying the land dispute between the villages of Silent and Seijang is open to discussion.
The indefinite Imphal-Ukhrul road bandh call given by SDC since Tuesday is unacceptable because the stir has seriously affected people, particularly the Tangkhul community and hence it should be withdrawn immediately, TNL president P Kazingmei said talking to Newmai News Network here.
He said the land dispute between the villages of Silent and Seijang is open to discussion, and the problem should not be allowed to have an effect on the entire population of Ukhrul district.
The indefinite Imphal-Ukhrul road bandh can provoke counter-agitation if it is not immediately called off, Kazingmei warned.
He alleged that the State Government and the authority concerned have not taken the strike seriously and pledged that TNL will not remain a silent spectator to the bandh that has crippled normal life.
SDC and Seijang villagers imposed the indefinite bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road from Tuesday in protest against the failure of the State Government to resolve the land dispute between the neighbouring villages of Silent and Seijang.
Meanwhile, reports said bandh supporters damaged at least 11 vehicles on Imphal-Ukhrul road.
Representatives of SDC met MLAs Kh Biren, RK Anand, N Biren and K Ranjit at the official quarters of Kh Biren at 9.30 am.
However, the meeting ended without any major breakthrough, SDC sources informed Newmai News Network.
The committee is trying to meet the Chief Minister to seek a clear-cut solution, they added.
