Ukhrul, April 07 2022:
After the recent death of buffaloes due to an unknown disease at Tusom village, another mysterious disease has killed at least 41 cattle at three villages of Chingjaroi Khullen, Chingjaroi CV and Chingjaroi Ngachaphung in Ukhrul district.
Reports culled from the villages said that the locals have so far recovered 41 carcasses of buffaloes and cows from different grazing fields and forest on Thursday.
Some of the bodies were found in a highly decomposed state.
Of the recovered bodies, 15 buffaloes and 10 cows belonged to villagers of Chingjaroi Khullen, while 10 cows were from Chingjaroi Ngachaphung and six cows from Chingjaroi CV .
The bodies bore symptoms of nasal bleeding, blistered tongue and infected hoof, and the locals have no idea what caused them, sources said.
The villagers said that the exact number of death could not be ascertained as yet since many more cattle have gone missing.
The villagers fear that many missing cattle might have died in unknown locations even as the owners are continuing search for their respective cattle.
According to the villagers, the outbreak of the unknown cattle disease might have started earlier this week.
However, none of the villagers had gone to the field as there was a week-long festival in the three villages.
The indigenous bread festival Khamor Angkhui was celebrated in the villages from April 2 to 6.Earlier in March end, an unknown cattle disease had killed several buffaloes at Tusom village in northern Ukhrul.
