World Health / Yoga Day observed across state

Awareness rallies and discussion programmes marked observance of World Health Day by different organisations and institutions across the state on Thursday.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch (MSB) observed "World Health Day" at IMA House, Lamphelpat.
In a joint release, IMA-MSB president Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam and state secretary Dr James Elangbam cautioned that as climate change has become a threat for our future generations' survival, The World Health Organisation (WHO) has chosen the theme, "Our Planet, Our Health" for this year's observance.
Environment and Climate Change department joint director Dr Tourangbam Brajakumar presented a concise and enlightening talk on the theme as a part of the programme held with IMA former president Dr Mohen Yanglem, senior IMA members Dr N Jiten Singh and Dr RK Lenin Singh as chairpersons.
Delivering the keynote address, IMA-MSB president Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam said that the rising temperatures are affecting humans and all other living beings, with over 150 species in danger of getting extinct.
If no preventive measures were taken up before the global temperature rises by about 2 degree Celsius, it would be difficult to solve the problem by then.
As such, IPCC has started taking up preventive measures across the globe while there is still time.
Thus, the day has been observed with the objective of spreading awareness amongst the people, he added.
The function was also attended by senior IMA members, doctors from RIMS, JNIMS and Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), medical students of SAHS, JNIMS and RIMS) and CoHIM volunteers who played a very important role during second wave of COVID - 19 in the state.
"Doctor on Pedals (DOP), the Cycling Wing of IMA-MSB" also organised a cycle rally (CYCLOTHON) earlier in the morning in and around Imphal City.
Participated by more than 40 cyclists including doctors, medical students and members of MAAMBA (Manipur adventure and Mountain Biking Association), the Cyclothon spread the message of "Protecting and Saving our Environment and Planet Earth as a whole for a Healthy and Sustainable Future" for all life on earth.
Under the sponsorship of National Legal Services Authority and Manipur State Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority, Tamenglong also observed World Health cum Yoga Day at ADR building, Lamphel court complex, Imphal on Thursday.
Judicial officers, Bar and staff members participated in the programme, which was organised under theme 'Our Planet, Our Health'.
Speaking on the occasion, MSLSA member secretary Ojesh Mutum recalled that the observance of World Health Day began from 1950 with the objective to ensure right to health and right to live in a clean environment.
Art of Living state di rector, government programme senior faculty S Roshinikumar and Art of Living senior faculty H Devan, who spoke as resource persons, emphasised on the importance of both physical and mental health.
They also highlighted the benefits of Yoga for leading a healthy life.
Meanwhile, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Senapati under the joint aegis of National Legal Services Authority and Manipur State Legal Services Authority organised a walkathon in connection with observance of World Health Day on Thursday.
District and Sessions Judge cum DLSA Senapati chairman Samom Ibjen flagged off the walkathon, which was participated by around 30 members of DLSA Senapati.
