Kakching, April 07 2022:
Informing that farmers, who are practicing Anganphou (early cropping) in Patlou areas under Hiyanglam assembly constituency of Kakching district, are facing shortage of urea, Sekmaijin GP Level Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, Sekmaijin Khunou has appealed to the state government to take up necessary steps to ensure adequate availability of urea to the farmers.
In a statement, the society informed that most of the farmland in the area are Patlou (inundated farms) and as a result, around 80 per cent of the farming areas practice Anganphou.
Moreover, farmers in Hiyanglam, Wabagai and Sugnu ACs are producing seasonal vegetables in large quantities and they need urea, the statement said, while drawing attention of the government for making urea available at subsidised rate to the farmers.
The statement also drew attention of the government over the lack of district agriculture office as well as district offices along with staff and infrastructure of other departments in Kakching district and appealed to the government to fill up these shortfalls at the earliest.
Stating that Kakching district is getting only about 20 per cent of the total urea quota provided for Thoubal and Kakching district, the society appealed to the authority concerned to look into the matter.
Farmers from Serou, Sugnu and Wangoo in Kakching district are forced to go to Thoubal to get one or two bags of urea, the statement said, while urging the government to open district agriculture office for Kakching district at the earliest or to make available subsidised urea through Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS) as an interim measure.
