Imphal, April 07 2022:
Opposition Congress party today staged a protest demonstration against inflation of prices of all essential commodities including petroleum products.
A sit-in-protest was organised by MPCC, INTUC, grievance cell, Labour Department and Kishan Congress under the aegis of AICC at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai community hall.
Speaking at the protest site, MPCC president K Meghachandra said that they were compelled to stage the protest demonstration as prices of all essential commodities including petroleum products have been soaring without any check.
Soon after the Assembly elections of five States was over, prices of petroleum products were hiked repeatedly for 14 consecutive days, thereby causing untold misery to a large section of the people, Meghachandra said.
He said that prices of around 800 different types of medicines have also been hiked.

People were hoping for good governance and public welfare from BJP Government.
However, prices of all essential commodities were hiked on the next day of electing BJP to power.
This is a brazen betrayal of the people's trust, asserted the MPCC president.
Incessant hiking of petrol and diesel prices has serious ramifications on all economic sectors including agriculture.
As a natural corollary of hiking fuel prices, prices of fertilizers as well as other agricultural inputs including labour charges have escalated which means prices of all agricultural produces would escalate.
The end result is collective suffering, he said.
Saying that the BJP Governments of the Centre and the State are instrumental for artificial inflation, the brunt of which are being borne by the common people, the Congress MLA remarked that many Union Ministers who promised all kinds of public welfare measures in the run up to the Assembly elections are now maintaining a deafening silence.
He went on to ask if the Government has no source of revenue other than those collected from petroleum products, agricultural produces and medicines.
Development and public welfare would remain a far cry in the country including Manipur given the continuous escalation of fuel prices.
As such, the Government needs to cut down prices of all essential commodities including petroleum products in the interest of the public, asserted the MPCC president.
The protest demonstration was also participated by many well known leaders of Congress party.
