Bodies demand holiday on Jadonang day

Zeliangrong Union – Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (ZU-AMN), Kabui Union Manipur (KUM), Kabui Mothers' Association (KAMA) and All Zeliangrong Arts & Cultural Organisation (AZACO) have demanded the state government to declare the death anniversary of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang, which falls on August 29, as a state holiday.
Addressing a press meet at Kakhulong here on Thursday, KAMA secretary Ranjita Golmei said that they have been raising the demand to successive governments for the past 20 years continues to be ignored till date.
This year, the government is planning to honour unsung heroes as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in commemoration of 75 years of India's independence, she said while opining that it is the opportune time to declare August 29 as a state holiday.
Hill Areas Committee chairman and Nungba MLA Dipu Gangmei, who was also present at the press meet, said that the demand is a legitimate one and urged the government to consider it.
