National Games: Manipur claim two gold in sepaktakraw as overall medal haul surges to 42

It was a double delight for Manipur women in the sepaktakraw competition as they put up a stellar performance to win two gold medals while the men's team settled for silver medals at the National Games 2023 on Friday.
In the women's team event, Manipur dominated hosts Goa 2-0, comfortably taking the first regu 21-10 and the second 21-9 in the final to claim the gold medal at the Fatorda Indoor Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Goa.
The state's other gold medal came courtesy of women's regu event where Manipur defeated Nagaland 24-22, 21-17 for their their yellow metal.
The state women's team consists of Elangbam Priya Devi, Ayekpam Maipak Devi, Shilpa Elangbam, Oinam Chaoba Devi, Wahengbam Sanajaobi Chanu, Mayengbam Jeny Chanu, Elangbam Leirentonbi Devi, Sorokhaibam Elizabeth Devi, Laishram Usharani Devi, Khumanthem Roshni Devi, Mutum Aruna Devi, Okram Jimi Devi, Leishangthem Sanjana and Wahengbam Pramodini Chanu.
The men's team, however, faltered at the final hurdle and settled for the silver medal after they lost out to Goa.
The men's regu event also saw Manipur lose to Goa in the final for silver medal.
Manipur men's team includes Huidrom Anish Singh, Mayengbam Ashok Singh, Tongbram Birbal Singh, Mayengbam Rishikan-ta Singh, Johnson Achom, Tarun Khaidem, Laishram Lanchenba Meitei, Chingangbam Anand Singh, Happyson Takhelmayum, Khunaijam Holendro Singh, Mutum Sushilkumar Singh, Kenson Moirangthem and Laishram Niken Singh.
Manipur have so far collected 42 medals to jump up to the seventh place in the medal table.
They have won 15 gold medals - three each in wushu, gymnastics and pencak silat; two in sepaktakraw, and one each in weightlifting, taekwondo, fencing and cycling.
Other medals include 11 silver and 16 bronze.
