Among others, the Black Day observation was participated by displaced persons from Churachandpur, Moreh and family members of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi whose bodies could not be traced till date after they were murdered by Kuki militants in cold blood.
Speaking at the gathering, Meitei Phambei leader Ningthouja Lancha pointed out that a large number of innocent Meitei people have been living as homeless families and suffering extreme misery since May 3 .
Starting from June 3, the Black Day Observation Committee has been observing Black Day on the third day of every month.
The main objective of the black day observation is exploring all possible options and means to resettle displaced Meitei people at their original places and avert recurrence of any such violent crisis, Ningthouja Lancha said.
Starting from the days of British colonial days, several colonial policies are being implemented in the State up to this day, he said.
Even today, attempts to segregate and isolate Meiteis racially have been going on unabated, he said.
Some of the displaced persons gave detailed accounts of the difficulties and misery they have been suffering since May 3 .
The gathering also observed silence for two minutes in honour of all those people killed in the violent crisis.
Later in the evening, the Black Day Observation Committee observed candle-light vigil at the western gate of Kangla and showed solidarity to all the Meitei people killed in the protracted crisis including SDPO Chingtham Anand Kumar, Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi.
