Imphal, November 03 2023:
The 10 rebel Kuki-Zomi-Hmar MLAs have demanded withdrawal of all the commandos deployed in Moreh and other Kuki-Zomi- Hmar tribal areas.
A joint statement issued the 10 rebel MLAs viz; Haokholet Kipgen (Saitu AC), Letpao Haokip (Tengnoupal AC), LM Khaute (Churachandpur AC), Nemcha Kipgen (Kangpokpi AC), Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh AC), Paolienlal Haokip (Saikot AC), Chinlunthang (Singhat AC), Letzamang Haokip (Henglep AC), Kimneo Haokip Hangshing (Saikul AC) and Vungzagin Valte (Thanlon AC) urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to replace commandos with neutral Central forces.
They accused Manipur Police, particularly commandos of unprofessional conduct and committing excesses in Tengnoupal district, specially Moreh during ongoing operations in the aftermath of the unfortunate incident that took place at Moreh on October 31 in which SDPO Ch Anand Kumar was killed.
On November 1, Sinam Kuki village in Tengnoupal district was attacked, and houses and properties/vehicles were destroyed by police commandos, the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar MLAs alleged.
"While we understand that the State police may be hard pressed to nab the culprit(s), we cannot condone the unrestrained illegal activities of the commando and State police personnel", the rebel MLAs said.
They sought intervention of the Ministry of Home Affairs into the matter at once.
The rebel MLAs also demanded that all erring State police/commando personnel should be booked as per law.
