Imphal, November 03 2023:
Any form of attack on Meetei Leepun is an attack against the entire Meetei population and the State's unity, said chief of the cultural organisation Mayengbam Pramot, today.
Notably, Pramot was attacked by armed assailants while he was heading towards the Meetei Leepun office at Langol along with his driver in a Mahindra Bolero today morning.
Speaking to the media at Langol, Pramot said that Meetei Leepun was formed with the sole objective to revitalise Meeteis and safeguard Manipur.
"We are not frightened by the attack but the same worries our families," he added.
tating that the stand of Meetei Leepun on the unity of Meeteis and State's integrity is very clear, Pramot maintained that they take today's attack as a challenge to the entire Meetei population and Manipur as a whole.
Meetei Leepun has been resisting those forces which stand against the idea of a united Manipur, Pramot said and asked all concerned to stop targeting their volunteers who have been working round the clock to prevent disintegration of the State.
It would be very unfortunate if today's attack was carried out by the hired gun from the Meetei community itself after receiving some money from the drug cartel, Pramot maintained.
Saying that Meetei Leepun has been doing whatever they can to keep the unity and integrity of Manipur intact since May 3 at their capacity, Pramot continued that they are now aiding the farmers in safeguarding their paddy fields from militants' attack during this harvest season.
Stating that they (the Meetei Leepun) are very busy right now aiding the farmers in preparation for crop harvest, he said that they would find out the group or persons behind today's attack once they have the time.
The reach of Meetei Leepun is not that short, he said and asserted that they will respond if any Meeteis are found involved in today's incident and take them to task.
"Stop the attack at once or else things will be very ugly and unnecessarily worry your families if Meetei Leepun retaliates," Pramot warned the assailants.
Meetei Leepun doesn't encourage fighting among the blood brothers and sisters and this must be understood by the people who carried out today's attack, he said.
